Fáilte!
Bhunaigh Ollscoil Fordham Institiúid na Léinn Éireannaigh i 1998 mar thoradh ar fhás a tháinig ar suim in ábhair a bhaineann le hÉirinn. Tá réimse leathan de dheiseanna staidéir ann do mhic léinn: ón athbheochan cultúrtha agus eacnamúil de chuid an Tíogar Ceilteach agus na hathruithe atá tagtha ar sochaí na hÉireann dá bharr, ceisteanna polaitiúil agus sóisialta Tuaisceart na hÉireann, buntáistí agus deacrachtaí a bhaineann le nua-aoiseachas, chomh maith le ról na hÉireann san Aontas Eorpach agus na Náisiún Aontaithe.

Tá Ollscoil Fordham oiriúnach dá leithéad d’Institiúid, lena caidreamh fada leis an bpobal Gael-Meirceánach agus Éireannach i gceantar Nua Eabhrach. Tá cúlra Éireannach ag cuid mhaith den phobal iar mhic léinn, céimithe, Dámh agus riarathóirí. Tá scoláireachtaí Fulbright agus Mitchell bainte amach ag scoláirí Fordham chun staidéar a dhéanamh in Éirinn, tá dochtúireachtaí onóracha bronnta ar Uachtaráin Éireannacha, leis an Uachtarán Mary McAleese san áireamh, tá urraíocht tugtha ag Scoil Dlí Fordham do chláir díscaoileadh coimhlinte d’oifigí agus saoránaigh ó Thuaisceart na hÉireann, agus tá cláir speisialta curtha ar bun ag Scoil Reiligiún agus Oideachas Reiligiúnda Fordham ar fhadhbanna nua-aoiseacha sóisialta d’oidí Éireannacha.
Welcome to the Institute of Irish Studies
In response to growing interest in Irish subjects, Fordham University established the Institute of Irish Studies in 1998. The cultural and economic renaissance of the Celtic Tiger has stimulated changes in Irish society, while the complex problem in Northern Ireland, the benefits and pains of social modernization, and Ireland’s increasingly important role in the European community and in the United Nations continues to present opportunities for scholarly examination.

Fordham University is a particularly appropriate home for such an institute in view of the university’s long-standing relations with the Irish-American community and Ireland. Substantial portions of the alumni, student body, faculty and administration have Irish roots. Fordham students have been recent recipients of Fulbright and Mitchell Scholarships for study in Ireland, Irish Presidents have been awarded honorary PhDs from Fordham, Fordham’s School of Law has sponsored conflict resolution programs for officials and private citizens from Northern Ireland, and Fordham’s School of Religion and Religious Education has conducted special programs on modern social problems for Irish educators.
