About Us

The Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA) offers students of all levels an academic base for the study of humanitarian aid.  At a time when terrorism and war are at the forefront of international affairs, the Institute is committed to training humanitarian workers to adapt within diverse crisis situations by giving them the critical skills needed to operate effectively in unfamiliar and often dangerous situations.

Through multi-disciplinary coursework in humanitarian assistance, negotiations, and disaster management, offered at both the graduate and undergraduate level, the IIHA trains students to find practical solutions to crises through the initiation of discourse and cooperation.  The IIHA trains students for careers in the humanitarian field by combining an advanced interdisciplinary approach with the shared practical field experience of both students and faculty.

To further supplement our mission, the IIHA frequently holds symposia, panel discussions, and networking events with humanitarian professionals. We provide consultation on humanitarian affairs to the Fordham community, and the international development community at large.  Through these contacts, the IIHA creates a unique bridge between the Fordham community and front line humanitarian efforts worldwide.
