International Humanitarian Internship Seminar

Information for Students

The International Humanitarian Internship Seminar offers students valuable experience in the humanitarian field. Students will be matched with a humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in the New York metropolitan area to work for the spring semester, according to their topical areas of interest.  As of academic year 2012-2013, the IHA Internship Seminar is only held during the spring semester.

Student Requirements

Students are expected to work with their organization a minimum of 15 hours per week throughout the entire spring semester, starting in January (students will be notified of the exact date). In addition to the work performed at their internship, students are required to attend the capstone seminar course held once a week.  A more detailed description of the course and its requirements will be provided in the course syllabus.

Pre - Requisites

In order to enroll in the International Humanitarian Afairs Internship Program, students must: (1) be enrolled in the IHA Minor, and (2) have already completed the International Humanitarian Affairs Foreign Service Program.  Students will meet with the Institute's Program Officer during the preceding fall semester to begin the placement process for the IHA Internship Seminar in the spring.  The Institute is available to assist students in finding internships with NGOs and non-profit organizations according to their desired area of interest and the organizations' requirements and needs.
