PADRE FELÍX VARELA SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was created to honor Padre Felix Varelas's
legacy in both New York City and Havana, Cuba.

Padre Felíx Varela was born in 1788 in Cuba where he became a distinguished Professor of Philosophy at the Seminary of San Carlos. He later immigrated to New York City and began a long life of dedication to the City's poorest members: helping poor minorities in the City, founding nurseries and orphanages for children of the poor, and later founding the New York Catholic Temperance Association.

One student who demonstrates both a solid academic record and financial need will be awarded this scholarship in Padre Felix Varela's honorable name, which will cover the cost of the summer program in Havana, Cuba.

Eligibility: Latin American and Latino Studies majors in their junior year who have FAFSA forms on file.

Application: One page letter stating student's desire to be considered addressed to Dr. Lenis, Dean's Office, Keating 302, Rose Hill Campus

If you would like to contribute to the Padre Felíx Varela Scholarship, please make checks available to Fordham College Rose Hill Dean's Office with a memo specifying "Padre Felix Varela Scholarship."
