The Graduate Certificate in Latin American and Latino Studies
This innovative program provides an opportunity for professionals in fields such as business, education, and the arts to be immersed in the cultures and groundbreaking scholarship in the field of Latin American and Latino Studies. In the 21st century, it is impossible to discuss Latin American and Latinos in the United States as discrete and separate cultures without taking into account the myriad of interactions between both groups. As the fastest-growing demographic group in the United States, Latinos are part of a shifting and global cultural and economic cosmos.
Fordham's top-notch faculty, internationally known for contributions to the field of Latin American and Latino Studies, will conduct graduate seminars and introduce students to the field's cutting edge research and most influential thinkers.

The certificate program consists of three (3) graduate-level courses: 1) an interdisciplinary course integrating the art, culture, and history of Latin America and Latinos in the US; 2) a course on the history ofLatin America or Latinos in the U.S.; and 3) an elective course on Latin American or Latino arts and humanities or social sciences. Students will select the courses best suited to their goals under the guidance of faculty advisors.

A history course such as "Advanced Readings: Latin American History," covering the most recent literature in the field

A literature course, such as "US Latino Literature and Film" or a political science course such as "Political Economy of Development"

An interdisciplinary course such as "Latin American and Latino Cultures" (which features guest lectures across the disciplines on art, literature, and the history of Latinos and Latin Americans).
Generally, students will complete the program by taking two courses in the summer and one during the regular school year.

What are the requirements to enter the certificate program?

A Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) application form is required. For currently enrolled students, the application fee is waived.

A statement of interest, transcripts, and one letter of recommendation are also required.

Admitted students will have to demonstrate reading competence in Spanish, Portuguese, or French upon graduation.
