Travel Courses


LALSI occasionally hosts travel courses in Latin America, offering student in-depth, on-site study of the history, arts and culture of the region. Past courses have a included:

  • A spring break trip to Mexico with Dr. Barbara Mundy (Art History), to study Pre-Columbian and Aztec archaeology. 

  • A summer course in Havana, Cuba with Dr. Arnaldo Cruz-Malavé (Literary Studies/Spanish) to study the evolution of Cuban culture since the 1959 revolution. Students spent four weeks at Cuba's premier cultural institute, the Casa de las Américas.

  • A summer course in Granada, Spain with Dr. Rafael Lamas (Spanish), where students learn about the works of the Spanish poet and dramatist, Federico García Lorca while experiencing the culture of his native Granada and Andalucía. Plans are underway to make this course available every year.
