Le Regime du Corps
Aldobrandino da Siena

Summary

Aldobrandino's Régime du corps is a dietetic text written in the 13th century drawing heavily on the writings of earlier medical authors (Avicenna, Ali Abbas, Rhazes, Isaac, and Johannitius). The first part deals with dietetic aspects of preserving health; the second part with the care of different parts of the body; the third with food and beverages; the fourth with physiognomy. The advice and directions touch on eating, sleeping, clothing choice, and the care of hair and teeth. The text is also known as De regimine sanitatis, or Levres pour la santé garder.

The manuscript from Paris, linked below, was created in France. According to Sebastiano Bisson, the Venetian manuscript was created in Italy in the first quarter of the fourteenth century.
