The goal of this project, in conjunction with the associated French of Italy and French of England websites, is to focus attention on the corpus of French-language works that serve as evidence of medieval language practice, and to highlight the works that were inspired by, created, or copied in those eastern territories under western rule from the late eleventh until the sixteenth centuries. The hope is that these texts will come to be viewed as integral rather than peripheral to the history of language use and cultural history in the later Middle Ages.
