Diplomatic Texts from the Noble Courts
of Cyprus

The Lusignan rulers of Cyprus and their aristocratic supporters were involved in a large number of legal interactions during their time on the island, and many of these were documented in treaties, donations, or oaths. Below are brief summaries of what is found in the French-language texts that were created by these inhabitants to formally document agreements and to register them with the public domain. A particularly descriptive example of a legal document, in this case a land transfer, has been entitled Le Jardin Regal du Pin

Full versions of many other texts which carried legal force can be found in the following works, and are indicated among the descriptions of each text in question:

Mas Latrie, Louis de., Ed. Histoire de l’Isle de Chypre sous le règne des princes de la maison de Lusignan (Paris, Imprimerie Nationale,1852-1855).

Strehlke, Ernestus, ed. Tabulae ordinis Theutonici, Berlin: Weidmanus, 1869.
