Why shoulD I study FOREIGN languages and literatures?

The in-depth study of foreign languages, literatures and cultures enable you to communicate with people from other countries, and to develop an understanding of and respect for cultural practices different from your own. It is a challenging, fun and highly rewarding experience that makes you aware of the diversity, richness and interconnectedness of our world, and prepares you to responsibly engage with our global community.

Foreign Languages and Literatures students are encouraged to take advantage of several co-curricular activities organized by the faculty in Modern Languages and Literatures, including lectures, film series, and outings to cultural events and sites in New York City, to improve their language skills and foster their interest in the literature, art and customs of other cultures. Clubs and Honor Societies offer further opportunities on campus to become involved in the intellectual and social life of Fordham community while actively promoting intercultural dialogue and understanding.
