ARRIVAL BY AIR

New York City is served by three airports:

John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is the largest airport in New York City. Situated in Queens, JFK is at least half an hour away from Midtown Manhattan by taxi, about 30-40 minutes by rail, and longer by subway. The flat rate for a taxi from JFK to anywhere in Manhattan is $52 plus toll ($4.50) and tip (15-20 %). If a taxi is taken to Grand Central, you can catch the Metro-North Harlem Line Train to Fordham. See more information about Metro-North under "Arrival by Rail." A taxi from JFK to Fordham's campus in the Bronx (441 E. Fordham Road) is $55 plus tip (15-20%).

The JFK AirTrain (monorail) connects to the Long Island Rail Road's (LIRR) Jamaica Station (schedules here). The fare from Jamaica to Pennsylvania Station (34th St. and 8th Ave.) during peak hours is $9.50; $7.00 other weektimes and $4.00 weekends (sold as CityTicket on weekends). From Penn Station take the 1, 2, or 3 subway line to Times Square and then the Shuttle or 7 line to Grand Central Station. From Grand Central take the Metro-North Harlem Line Train to Fordham. See more information about Metro-North under "Arrival by Rail."

Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is located in New Jersey, 30 minutes from Penn Station on New Jersey Transit's Northeast Corridor Line train.  A one-way ticket is $12.50. From Penn Station see directions under "Arrival by Rail."

LaGuardia International Airport (LGA), in Queens, is primarily a domestic airport. La Guardia is not connected to Manhattan by rail but several other options are available:

A taxi from LaGuardia to midtown Manhattan should cost $30 plus tip (15-20%). From Penn Station or Grand Central Terminal follow directions under Arrival by Rail. A taxi from LaGuardia to Fordham's campus in the Bronx (441 E. Fordham Road) should cost $38 plus tip (15-20%).

From La Guardia take the M60 bus ($2.50/$3.50 single-ride) to 125th Street; then the 4 or the D subway line to Fordham Road, six blocks from the Rose Hill Campus (see bus schedule).

Other buses from LaGuardia, run by The New York Airport Service (www.nycairporter.com), stop at various Midtown locations, such as Grand Central Station and the Port Authority Bus Terminal ($13 one-way and $23 r/t). From Penn Station or Grand Central follow directions under "Arrival by Rail."

ARRIVAL BY RAIL

Pennsylvania Station (34th St. and 8th Ave.) is New York's main rail station serving Amtrak, the Long Island Railroad, New Jersey Transit, and PATH. From Penn Station take the A or E subway line one stop North to 42nd St./Port Authority and transfer to the 7 or Shuttle lines to Grand Central Station. Follow directions from Grand Central below.

Grand Central Station (42nd St. and Park Ave.) is the Manhattan Terminal of the Metro-North Commuter Rail Road (schedules may be found here: http://www.mta.info/mnr/html/planning/schedules/). From Grand Central catch the Metro-North Harlem Line North to Fordham. Tickets can be at Grand Central for $8.25/peak and $6.25/off-peak. Fares are significantly more expensive if purchased on the train (http://www.mta.info/mnr/index.html.) On weekends, a CityTicket fare is available between Fordham and Grand Central for $3.75.

 ARRIVAL BY BUS

There are a variety of ways to reach New York by bus. A list of bus companies serving the Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd St. and 8th Ave.) may be found here: http://www.ny.com/transportation/port_authority.html. In addition to these smaller buslines, Greyhound also stops at multiple locations in Manhattan, including the Port Authority Bus Terminal. For more information see the Greyhound website (www.greyhound.com). From the Port Authority, take the Shuttle or 7 subway line to Grand Central. From there take the Metro-North Harlem Line. Follow directions from Metro-North under "Arrival by Rail."

GETTING AROUND NEW YORK CITY

Public transport:  Subways and buses run continually. The fare is $2.50 per ride (or $3.50 for a single-ride ticket), irrespective of distance. Transfers from one line, or mode of transport, to another are free (within an hour of disembarkation).  Fares must be paid using Metrocards, which can be purchased in all subway stations and in many shops (all Metrocard machines accept credit cards).

The Subway reaches most parts of Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. A complete map of the system is posted in every station and online at http://www.mta.info/maps/submap.html.  Most Manhattan streets are laid out on a grid; public buses have North-South routes on most avenues and East-West (crosstown) routes on most major streets. Several crosstown routes traverse Central Park which lies between 59th and 110th Streets.

The closest subway stop to Fordham's Rose Hill campus is the D train at Grand Concourse. When you exit the station, walk east down Fordham Rd. to the campus entrance at Third Ave. (a 7-10 minute walk). You can also take the 4 train to the Fordham Rd. stop, and walk east on Fordham Rd. until you reach the Third Ave. campus entrance (a 15-20 minute walk).

Staten Island can be reached  by ferry via the 1 line South to Battery Park/South Ferry at the southern tip of Manhattan. The ferry trip itself is free. Staten Island  has its own railway that runs from the ferry terminal at St George all the way south to Tottenville, the southernmost point in New York City.
