CLINICAL EXTERNSHIPS

First year students identify, apply for, and interview at five or more externship sites subsequent to consultation with their academic advisor and the Director of Clinical Training at one of the inpatient or outpatient facilities identified via the links below.

Second and third year students spend a full academic year at one externship site. During the spring semester, students they identify, apply for, and interview at externship sites aroudn the region, in consultation with their academic advisor and the Director of Clinical Training. The primary objective of these externship experiences is to develop a preliminary level of competence in clinical assessment and intervention, and to obtain a range of training experiences that will enable the student to be a competitive applicant for an APA approved internship placement.

Most fourth year students elect to complete an additional year of externship training while working on their dissertation, in order to add further depth or breadth to their clinical training and further strengthen their readieness for an APA approved internship. Fourth year externships are NOT required.
