A developmental and comparative examination of significant theories and research findings on conceptual behavior.

A research apprenticeship for all first-year students in the Developmental Program. Students, working under the direct supervision of a Developmental faculty member, gain firsthand experience in the design, implementation, and analysis of a research project pertaining to the development of infants, children, adolescents, mid-life, or older adults.

Undergraduate Courses

PSRU-2611-Experimental Psychology: Reasoning (4) Syllabus via Blackboard, eRes, or email.
This is lecture and field experimental course focused on the development of cognitive abilities from infancy through adulthood. Students learn structuralist and information processing theories and research and are introduced to neural network theories of mind. Students conduct three experiments with children ages 3-5, 8-10, and adults over 40. Prerequisite: Introductory Statistics in Psychology

PSRV-4930-Codes of Conduct in the Mental Health Professions (3) Syllabus via Blackboard, eRes, or email.
This course provides a background in psychological theories and research in moral development, moral action, and professional ethics.  It challenges students to think of the social issues and values embedded in the fields of psychology, teaching, and other human service professions--specifically by examining cultural and ethnic issues.  Students solve classic moral dilemmas from philosophy and psychology, trace major historical law cases in the development of psychology's professional ethics code in the U.S., and discuss ethical conflicts in research and practice from the viewpoints of ethical codes of conduct of many nations.
