An introduction to the contents and methods of scientific psychology as a life science. A survey of the facts, principles, and theories of psychology relating to learning, sensation, perception, cognition, motivation, developmental, personality, abnormal, and social psychology

Course focuses on the research in animal and human learning. Empirical findings are discussed in relation to competing theories of learning, memory, and adaptive behavior. Prerequisite: PSRU 1000

PSRU-3800-Drugs: Use and Abuse (4) Syllabus via Blackboard, eRes, or email.
This course examines the use, abuse, and addiction to a variety of licit and illicit drugs from caffeine to heroin. This topic will be viewed from three perspectives: 1) the pharmacological effect of the drug; 2) the setting in which the drug is ingested; 3) the past experience of the drug taker. Prerequisite: PSRU 1000.

Introduction to the experimental analysis of behavior using laboratory animals. Behavior principles, their application, and how to conduct an experimental analysis will be reviewed in lecture and demonstrated in the laboratory. Prerequisites: PSRU 1000, 2000, 2010

This course surveys the development of contemporary behaviorism, which is a philosophy of science that approaches psychology as a natural science. Among the issues discussed will be culture, determinism, evolution, free will, grammar, individual responsibility, knowledge, meaning, mentalism, pragmatism, perception, purpose, self, religion, and thinking.
