An introduction to the contents and methods of scientific psychology as a life science. A survey of the facts, principles, and theories of psychology relating to learning, sensation, perception, cognition, motivation, developmental, personality, abnormal, and social psychology

The objective of this course is to enable students to understand basic statistical concepts and become proficient at using SPSS software to conduct and interpret appropriate statistical analyses. This course seeks to prepare students conceptually and with relevant computer skills to analyze data as part of subsequent courses and research.

A hands-on introduction to research methods in psychology. In the lab, students will replicate classic studies from different areas of psychology, analyze the results, and write APA-style lab report s. The lectures introduce these areas and relevant methods, placing the methods in broad historical and ethical contexts.

Survey of research on the senses, especially vision and hearing. Biological, psychophysical and cognitive perspectives will be considered.

The analysis of the processes of acquiring and using objective, social, and interpersonal knowledge, including perception, attention, memory, problem solving, and decision making. Lifespan developmental milestones of cognitive abilities are included.

PSLU-4000-History and Systems in Psychology (4) Syllabus via Blackboard, eRes, or email.
The development of psychological thought through the history of psychology as a science is traced. Attention is given to the application of the philosophy of science to psychology. Systems covered include associationism, structuralism, functionalism, Gestalt psychology, psychoanalysis, behaviorism, and cognition.
Prerequisite: Junior or Senior status

PSLU-4330-Cross-Disciplinary: Psychology of Music (4) Syllabus via Blackboard, eRes, or email.
A cross-disciplinary course that examines what psychological research and theories tell us about music. Topics include perception and performance of music, emotional responses, and cross-cultural approaches. Requires a background in psychology and/or music

PSRU-4997-Honors Thesis in Psychology I (3) Syllabus via Blackboard, eRes, or email.
This course, usually taken in the Fall of senior year, involves carrying out the Honors Thesis. Typically, this includes data collection and analysis and initial work on the written report. Students should have reviewed the relevant literature and completely planned the thesis prior to beginning this course. Prerequisite: Acceptance into the psychology department honors program.

PSRU-4998-Honors Thesis in Psychology II (3) Syllabus via Blackboard, eRes, or email.
This course, taken in the Spring of senior year, involves completion of the thesis. The student prepares and revises the final written report and defends the thesis orally. Prerequisite: PSRU 4997.
