This course serves as an introduction to graduate-level statistical methods used in Psychology. The course will cover both conceptual and applied approaches to understanding statistics and will provide a foundation for more advanced topics in statistics. There is a strong emphasis on a grounded conceptual understanding of statistical methods. Statistics such as t-tests, chi-square, correlation, regression, analysis of variance, mixed methods will be covered. Weekly lab meetings provide students with an opportunity to apply techniques covered in lecture using SPSS and other relevant software.

This course serves as an introduction to statistical methods used in Psychology. Topics will include: distributions, probability, and descriptive statistics for data analysis. Statistics such as z-test, t-test, chi-square, correlation, regression, analysis of variance will be applied to psychological examples. Weekly lab meetings provide students with an opportunity to apply techniques covered in lecture using both SPSS and Excel.

As the United States becomes increasingly diverse, it is important to understand the variety of cultures that make up this diversity. This course will serve to increase students’ awareness of multicultural topics such as discrimination and prejudice. We are all members of various social groups, therefore, much of the course will be based on students’ own experiences with their own and other social groups.
