Cross-University Collaborative Mentoring Conference 2014

Developmental Contexts: The Role of Families, Schools & Neighborhoods in Child Development

The Cross University Collaborative Mentoring Conference (CUCMC) provides graduate students studying education and child development a unique opportunity to share their research and receive feedback from faculty and peers from neighboring universities. The student-led conference is committed to improving child-centered research by bridging current research with the needs of diverse communities. By fostering supportive relationships between doctoral students and mentors, CUCMC creates an environment for researchers to present their work and engage in discourse with fellow students and distinguished faculty.

The 2014 CUCMC conference is being hosted by the Applied Developmental Psychology program at Fordham University Rose Hill Campus, 441 East Fordham Road, Bronx, NY 10458.

There will be a welcome reception on Thursday, June 5th in Tognino Hall, Duane Library. On Friday, June 6th, general sessions will take place in Tognino Hall, Duane Library and student presentations will take place on the 3rd floor of Dealy Hall.

Registration & Submissions
Doctoral students in all stages of research are encouraged to submit proposals. Requirements for submissions are as follows (paper presentations):

  • Presentation title
  • Abstract (250 word maximum) describing the presentation
  • Guiding questions and topic of interest on which you wish to solicit feedback from the audience

Student Submissions Deadline
The deadline for submission is Friday, April 4th. Student proposals are to be submitted via the submissions website. No other forms of submission will be permitted. Notification of acceptance will be e-mailed in early May.

Mentor Registration Deadline
The deadline for mentor registration is Friday, April 11th. Faculty can register via the registration website.

Additional Information

  • Paper Presentation sessions are approximately 60 minutes in length and will be shared by 2-3 presenters.
  • Presentations may include multiple presenters, but the allotted time will remain the same at approximately 20 minutes per presentation, regardless of the number of presenters.
  • Presenters giving paper presentations typically choose to give PowerPoint presentation

Directions to the Rose Hill Campus
Fordham University Rose Hill Campus is conveniently located adjacent to the Fordham Road stop on the Metro-North commuter railroad. A few blocks from the University, the D subway line stops at Fordham Road and Grand Concourse and the 4 subway line stops at Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue. Several local buses stop at the University and the Bx12 travels from both subway lines to the University gate.

RAM Van
Conference attendees staying at hotels near the Lincoln Center Campus may take Fordham University’s inter-campus transportation – the Ram Van – to the Rose Hill Campus. The Ram Van provides shuttle service between Fordham Campuses. The first two shuttle rides leave Lincoln Center at 8:15 AM and 8:30 am and then every half an hour until 11:00pm. Arrival times will vary depending on traffic conditions. Many times the trip will take 30 minutes, however allow at least one hour for traveling as heavy traffic can result in trips lasting even more than an hour.

Vans arrive and depart from Lincoln Center on the corner of 60th street and Columbus (9th) Avenue. Vans Arrive and depart from Rose Hill right outside the Ram Van Office, located on the ground floor of the parking garage.

Tickets cost $3 each way. Conference attendees must purchase tickets via ticket machines located in Lincoln Center's Lowenstein building lobby, or in the Ram Van office at the Rose Hill Campus, located in the regional parking facility. Please make sure to purchase a ticket before riding, as the drivers are not allowed to accept cash.

Please indicate your desire to reserve seating on the Ram Van when you register. To make changes to your reservation after the registration deadline, please contact the CUCMC planning committee at cucmc2014@gmail.com. Reservations must be finalized 24 hours in advance.
