Clinical Interests
Top
  • As a board certified clinical neuropsychologist, I am interested in a variety of neurologic disorders, particularly neurodegenerative disorders such as HIV/AIDS. Over the past few years, I have conducted numerous neuropsychological evaluations within my private practice with a variety of populations, including traumatic brain injury, dementia, Spanish-speakers, and others. I am also active in Division 40 (Clinical Neuropsychology) of the American Psychological Association, the National Academy of Neuropsychology, and the Hispanic Neuropsychological Society, all of which strongly promote student participation.

Major Research Interests Top
  • My NIH-funded research is focused on the neurocognitive and functional consequences of HIV/AIDS and health disparities among U.S. Latinos.

Projects Top
  • My primary projects at this time include a study of the neurocognitive and sociocultural aspects of antiretroviral adherence among HIV+ Latino/a adults, as well as a study examining the neurocognitive effects of opiate replacement therapies among HIV+ and HIV- opiate users. I serve as a co-investigator on a multi-site study of the CNS effects of HIV in the era of combined antiretroviral therapy. I am also investigating the sociocultural aspects of neurocognitive test performance. I work closely with graduate and undergraduate students in order for them to gain neuropsychological research experience during both the early (i.e., study conceptualization, data collection, etc.) and latter stages of research projects (i.e., conference presentations and manuscript preparation).
