Biographical Details
Professor James Wilson started his career as a geologist in the early 1980s, working 10 years in the oil industry. After returning to graduate school, he served as the Director of Planning and Research for the Tennessee Department of Correction from 1999-2001 while completing his Ph.D. He then worked for two years (2001-2003) as a Senior Research Associate for the nonprofit Vera Institute of Justice. While there, he was principal investigator on two National Institute of Justice grants, "An Evaluation of the Greenlight Transitional Services Demonstration Program", and (co-principal with Don Stemen) on "Of Fragmentation and Ferment: The Impact of State Sentencing Policies on Incarceration Rates, 1975-2002." He joined the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Fordham University in 2003 and has been happy there ever since. Professor Wilson's publications have appeared in such journals as American Sociological Review, Criminology and Criminology and Public Policy . His current research interests are in the areas of corrections and community corrections, offender reentry/reintegration, and how private and nonprofit community organizations can work with public agencies to facilitate the reentry process. |
