Peter Schneider recently retired from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Fordham University, Fordham College at Lincoln Center. Since 1965 he and anthropologist Jane Schneider have collaborated in ethnographic field research in Sicily, Italy. He is co-author, with Jane Schneider, of Culture and Political Economy in Western Sicily (1976); Festival of the Poor: Fertility Decline and the Ideology of Class in Sicily (1996); "Il Caso Sciascia" (1998); and Reversible Destiny: Mafia, Antimafia and the Struggle for Palermo (2003). He is currently working on a chapter for the Annual Review in Anthropology, “Crime and criminalization in globabl perspective”.
