About the Sociology Major and Minor
What is Sociology?
Sociology is the study of social life - ranging from the analysis of passing encounters between individuals on a city street to the examination of current trends in globalization. The scope of the discipline is extremely broad, allowing for a variety of interests and curiosities to be integrated.
“What can I do with a BA in sociology?” is a typical question asked by undergraduate students. As a strong liberal arts major, a BA in sociology is excellent preparation for future graduate work, as well as a variety of positions throughout the business, social service, and government worlds. For more information on the sociology major and the world of opportunities offered by the discipline, we encourage you to visit the website for the American Sociological Association (www.asanet.org) or to stop by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology here at Lincoln Center (Lowenstein 916).
