Anthropology Major/Minor Requirements

Fordham College at Rose Hill

Major Requirements
Students who major in Anthropology at Rose Hill must take three required courses:
  1. Introduction to Cultural Anthropology (ANTH 1100)
  2. Introduction to Physical Anthropology (ANTH 1200)
  3. Introduction to Archaeology (ANTH 1300)
Juniors and seniors may take equivalent tutorials.  These required courses insure that sutdents achieve a basic literacy in the major sub-fields of anthropology.  In addition, an anthropology major must take five elective courses, making eight in all.  Up to two courses in sociology may be used to satisfy electives, and, with prior approval, one or two courses in other departments, or special tutorials taken with anthropology faculty, may be credited toward the major if such courses complement departmental offerings and lie within a student's specific area of anthropological interest.  Students are strongly encouraged to enroll in anthropology courses taught by Lincoln Center faculty.

Minor Requirements
Students wishing to minor in anthropology must complete six courses.  These six include the three required courses:
  1. Introduction to Cultural Anthropology (ANTH 1100)
  2. Introduction to Physical Anthropology (ANTH 1200)
  3. Introduction to Archaeology (ANTH 1300)
The remaining three courses are electives, one of which may be in sociology.

Major Requirements
Students who major in Anthropology at Lincoln Center must take two required courses:
  1. Introduction to Cultural Anthropology (ANTH 1100)
  2. Culture and Culture Change (ANTH 3725)
In addition, an anthropology major must take seven elective courses, making nine in all.  Up to two courses in sociology may be used to satisfy electives, and, with prior approval, one or two courses in other departments, or special tutorials taken with anthropology faculty, may be credited toward the major if such courses complement departmental offerings and lie within a student's specific area of anthropological interest.  Students are strongly encouraged to enroll in anthropology courses taught by Rose Hill faculty.


Minor Requirements

  1. Introduction to Cultural Anthropology (ANTH 1100)
  2. Culture and Culture Change (ANTH 3725)
