FCLC Sophomores and Juniors: Fordham College at Lincoln Center is again offering grants to support research projects for up to eight weeks during the summer of 2012. Only students who will be juniors or seniors in the fall of 2012 may apply. The grants will cover dormitory housing (if needed), research expenses and a small living stipend, up to $3,300 in total. Grants will be awarded competitively to eligible students with viable proposals for research projects that can be completed within the eight-week time frame. Deadline for applications is March 9, 2012. For details and application forms, contact me at kahogan@fordham.edu Seniors: The Tikvah Fund is currently accepting applications for the Tikvah Fellowship, a fully-funded year-long fellowship devoted to serious intellectual inquiry into the challenges facing the Jewish people in Israel and in the Diaspora. Based in New York City, the fellowship offers advanced coursework, high-level work placements, and frequent opportunities to meet and work with respected figures in journalism, policy, academia, and communal and religious life. Each fellow receives a stipend of between $30,000 and $75,000, depending on age, experience, and financial need. All those with undergraduate degrees are eligible. The Center for Ethics Education is now accepting papers for the 2012 Helen and Norman Burg Ethics Prize awarded to the best undergraduate and best graduate student paper on ethics. Papers are due February 17, 2012.

Junior and Seniors: Saint John's University is sponsoring the Obsculta theological essay contest for compelling, well-researched, and persuasive essays on any topic of Christian theology. Papers must be 15 pages or less. The author will receive a $500 prize, a $6,000 scholarship to the School of Theology, and publication in the student journal Obsculta. The Providence Alliance for Catholic Teachers (PACT) is recruiting undergraduates to serve as full-time teachers in Catholic school dioceses throughout New England while earning a fully-funded Master of Education degree. PACT teachers live together during the school year in small, faith-based communities while serving schools as coaches, moderators, advisers, and campus ministers in addition to their classroom teaching. Coursework is completed in two years of intensive study on the Providence College campus. The application is available at http://www.providence.edu/pact
Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics, Essay Contest 2012: The Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics is awarded to Junior and Senior undergraduates who write excellent, 3,000-4,000 word personal essays raising ethical questions and developing compelling arguments for action. The prize for 1st place is $5,000. A faculty sponsor is required; please contact a faculty member if you are interested in submitting an essay. Sample essays can be found in the recent book, An Ethical Compass: Coming of Age in the 21st Century. Past winners include Fordham students. The deadline for submission is 2pm on December 5. The Clark Award is a competitive essay contest sponsored by the Theta Alpha Kappa National Honor Society for Religious Studies and Theology. Winning authors (one graduate, one undergraduate) receive $500, and their papers will be published in the Journal of Theta Kappa Alpha. Papers should be no longer than 20 pages. The deadline for submission is January 15. Papers must be submitted through a chapter moderator; please contact Dr. Maureen O'Connell (amaoconnell@fordham.edu) if you are interested in submitting an essay. The Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University is sponsoring the fifth annual Undergraduate Ethics Symposium, April 12-14, 2012. The conference is shaped around a series of workshops in which students present their best work on a subject of ethical concern. This year the theme of the Symposium is Ethics and Relationships: Friends, Family and Community. This is an honors symposium, and those students whose works are received by the February 1 deadline and accepted for inclusion in the conference program by panels of DePauw faculty members will have all of their expenses paid for the conference. DePauw will cover travel expenses (up to $400), lodging and food for each conference participant.
