Research Interests: discourse of the body in early Christianity; Pauline studies; martyrdom and suffering; liturgics.

Ryan Bowley received his B.A. from Providence College with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy. In college, he rekindled his interest in the New Testament and early Christianity, and received an M.A.T.S. in Biblical Studies from the Episcopal Divinity School. His primary research interests are in martyrdom and the discourse of suffering prevalent in early Christianity, with a focus on the letters of St. Ignatius of Antioch and the Martyrdom of Polycarp. He is also interested in Paul and his conception of illness and the body more broadly, and in the reception of Paul in the early Church.
