CV at Academia.edu
Emily Cain received her BA from John Brown University with a double major in Theological Studies and Cross-Cultural Services and minors in French and Religion & Philosophy. At John Brown, she was introduced to Augustine studies, which sparked her desire to continue on to graduate work through the M.Div degree at Princeton Theological Seminary. This served both to broaden her theological background and to deepen her interest in Patristics. At Fordham, Emily's interests have specialized further, moving East to the Cappadocian Fathers and Gregory of Nyssa in particular. Emily's current project explores the mirror metaphor as it has been influenced by different understandings of ancient optics, particularly as ancient authors use the mirror metaphor in relation to the soul and the Image of God.
Research Interests: Patristics, Cappadocian Fathers, Gregory of Nyssa, Early Christian Mysticism, Ancient Optics, Theological Anthropology, Byzantine Studies.
