Conservation Biology
Theory and practice of conservation biology. Topics will include maintenance of species diversity, design of reserves, captive management, genetic considerations, and factoes affecting extinction rates.

Economic Devlopment Policy
Using economic methodology, this course examines the interaction between political and economic institutions in the determination of economic policy in developing countries. Topics may include population contral, urban bias, agrarian reform, trade policies, foreign aid, and macroeconomic adjustment policies. Prerequisite: ECGA 5011

Epidemics and Development
A study of epidemics in developing countries, their transmission, control and governmental policy.

Latin American and Latino Cultures
In-depth study of cultural phenomena (linguistic, literary, artistic, etc) and the intellectual, social and political contexts in which they manifest themselves in Latin America and U.S. Latino communities. The topics will be addressed from historical and contemporary perspectives.

Political Economy of Development
The course will focus on an analysis of contending interpretations of the consequences of the economic interrelationship between industrially developed and developing states. 

Population and Development Issues
The relationships among population processes and the major sectors of development, including economic and socio-cultural development, politics, and government, natural resource management, rural development, the status of women, health and nutrition, and development planning and policies in the developing countries.
