During Fordham's 2010 summer program at London’s Heythrop College, Dr. Rosemary Wakeman will be teaching a course titled, "Modern London: Biography of a City." The course is a discovery of London from the late 18th Century to the present day, focusing on the city’s history, urban culture, architecture and design. As part of the study of London's role as a cultural, political and financial capital as well as a world city, students will participate in excursions to places like Canary Wharf, Picadilly Circus, and Covent Gardens. Contemporary London is studied as an international urban region of extraordinary diversity.
The Urban Studies Program enthusiastically encourages its students to find opportunities for study abroad. Below is a list of programs that offer courses related to Urban Studies or Planning. Students should consult the Office of International and Study Abroad Programs, as well as the Urban Studies department, before making a final decision.
As it invariably happens here at Fordham, at other universities and programs, not every course listed is offered every semester. It is important thus that, when you begin choosing courses during the application process, you carefully check what courses will be available for the term you will be abroad. Patience during registration here at Fordham helps---being patient about the intricacies of registration for study abroad will also help you. Please also remember that you may go abroad to do courses related to your major, or you may take elective courses to enhance your undergraduate degree.
