COMPUTER SECURITY TIPS

You can never be completely safe online, but you can be "safer" by adhering to the following suggested guidelines:

1. Update your Operating System:
Updates are required, even on brand new computers! You are required to
connect to a website to get the updates; they will never be sent to you.

       Win:  http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us
       Mac: http://www.apple.com/support/security/

2. Do not open unexpected attachments:
Viruses spread themselves through multiple methods; a very common, and
successful, tactic is to send itself as an e-mail attachment.

3. Keep anti-virus signatures up to date:
If you do not have a university approved anti-virus, the Symantec software
is available to all members of the university community to download and
install for free. You can install it by using the following link:

Download & Install  SCS (Login with Fordham e-mail Username & Password is Required)
(Note: See Network Security page for information on approved Anti-Virus software.)

4. Be careful:    Do not open web links from unknown or unverified sources.

5. Back up your data:  For information check out the following links
