Dear Marymount Family,
The weather has suddenly changed here in New York—cooler and shorter days. Where has the summer gone? Did you spend any time renewing yourself?
Nick Harris and Olivia Chopra at the commissioning ceremony.
The RSHM Domestic One Year Volunteer Program was initiated Sunday, Aug. 18, with the commissioning of two volunteers, Nick Harris and Olivia Chopra, graduates of Fordham University. In early August they completed the Orientation Program and were commissioned. They are now living for one year in Immokalee, Fla., serving with Maureen Kelleher, R.S.H.M., at Legal Aid Services of Collier County, and Genevieve Murphy, R.S.H.M., at Immokalee Community School. If you would like to send Olivia and Nick a word of encouragement, please send them an e-mail:

On Sept. 21, we had a record turnout at Homecoming and the Rams 52-7 victory over Columbia was just the icing on the cake! A number of Marymount alumnae were present to join in the festivities. On Sept. 20-22, Marymount College, Tarrytown, alumnae attended the RSHM Extended Family Retreat at Cormaria, Sag Harbor. And by the time you receive this letter, the Marymount, Paris' 90th celebration will have taken place. On Oct. 12, graduates of Marymount School and several alumnae celebrated the occasion with former faculty and administrators. Happy Birthday Marymount, Paris!
As Jane Barnett, our alumnae president, told you in her last letter, we have a busy fall with many opportunities to reunite and meet new people:
- Marymount young alumnae: Join other young alumni of Fordham University on Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m. at P.J. Clarke's (44 W.63rd St.), for Faith on Tap, an engaging conversation on topics relevant to the Catholic faith led by Jeannine Hill Fletcher, Ph.D., associate professor of theology at Fordham. Register online.
Nov. 1: Save the date for a special reception, celebrating Sister Roz. Join us in Butler Commons for an evening of cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, from 6 to 8 p.m. hosted by Father McShane and the Marymount Alumnae Association. The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary joyfully announce the election of Sister Rosamond (Roz) Blanchet, MC '62, as general superior for a six-year term. Sister Roz is from the Eastern American Province and will begin her new ministry in Rome, Italy, on Nov. 21. More information.

- Dec. 8 is Marymount Founder's Day and a celebration of the R.S.H.M. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will hear about the work in three distinct R.S.H.M. programs. The second annual Mother Butler Leadership Award will be presented to Sister Ann Marino and the Cormaria Retreat House of Sag Harbor, N.Y. As is tradition, please bring children's clothing and toys for the RSHM Life Center, and later that afternoon, join us in the University Church and hear the Fordham University Choir sing traditional Christmas carols at the Festival of Lessons and Carols. What a perfect way to begin the Christmas season! Register online.
- Dec. 15 is the Advent Day of Prayer and the day will begin with the Sunday Eucharist at 11 a.m. followed by a light lunch, input, and reflection at the Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Ave., Tarrytown. The Rev. Senan Taylor, O.F.M.Cap., will preside at Mass. Our presentation will be led by Sister Danielle Marie Baran, C.R., who will speak on the Eucharist. Register by calling 914-631-8872 or e-mailing Shirley Solivan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- A new Marymount alumnae directory is in the works! Harris Publishing will be mailing yellow postcards in the coming months. Please call in and update your contact information for the new directory (last published in 2007) when you receive the postcard. Hardback books and CDs will be available.
We hope you will continue to be involved in the many events provided for you, and don't forget to look for the regional events and invite your Marymount friends and meet new friends there.
