Legacy Fund Recipients

Dear Marymount Alumnae,

I want to again say thank you for making me the 2011–2012 Marymount Legacy Scholarship recipient. It has been such an honor to be chosen again for this scholarship that has continued to make an impact on not only my life, but my family's as well. My education at Fordham is of the utmost importance to my family and I, but its financial burden has been taxing. This award has made my valuable education less of a stressor and for that I am so very grateful. Thank you for ensuring that I can continue to learn and grow at Fordham and enjoy the time I have left at this incredible place before I move on into real world.

I am finishing my final year at Fordham and I am studying at Fordham College at Rose Hill. As of last year I was a psychology major with a sociology minor, but last semester my interest in sociology peaked and I have since added it as a second major. This means that my last semester is not exactly a breeze, but I am very much enjoying what I am getting out of it. I feel that in my senior year, I have truly learned the most from my professors and mentors and really took advantage of the resources that Fordham has provided me with. I am so happy that I have done this and that I feel that I truly got the most out of my Fordham experience before it ends so very soon.

Fordham has become my home. The dorms, the classrooms, the offices, and the surrounding Bronx neighborhood have become my community, and I honestly cannot believe that four years flew by as fast as they did. Fordham has become my entire life and I am so grateful that your contributions to my education have made that a reality for me. I have enjoyed every second of my Fordham experience (OK, maybe not midterms and finals, but every other second!) and I truly cannot believe how quickly it went by. I would not be the person I am today if I did not attend Fordham, and I would not have been able to continue my education without the generous donations of you and others to my education; so thank you for helping to create the person that I am today.

While it still saddens my mother, aunt and great aunt, all Marymount alumnae that attending Marymount was not an option for me; they have been so pleased with the education I have received at Fordham and are thrilled by how much I have loved the entirety of my Fordham experience. I have been so lucky to have three family members who are all able to share their Marymount experiences with me, while I can share my Fordham experiences with them and realize how similar they are. I am honored to have been chosen to represent Fordham's tie to and unforgettable institution like Marymount.

Fordham University has been a place of exponential growth for me. Beginning last spring I started a student worker job on campus at the Office of Legal Counsel. I have truly enjoyed my experience on the job and it has sparked my passion for law and my future plans for law school. Without all of my experiences at Fordham, I would not have made these realizations about myself and developed my future plans. The things I have learned on this beautiful campus, the people I have met, and the experiences I have had will stay with me for a lifetime. Thank you for making this education a reality for not only myself, but also past and future scholarship recipients. We are truly grateful for the opportunities you have provided us with. I cannot say thank you enough for helping to shape our lives and our futures.

Thank You,

Shannon Tierney
