Barbara Broome Semans, UGE '56
Barbara Broome Semans is a 1956 alumna of Fordham's Undergraduate School of Education.
Ever grateful for the “tremendous difference” Fordham has made in her life, Barbara Broome Semans, UGE '56, and her husband, Bob, named the University a beneficiary of their retirement plans. Barbara and Bob also established the John Broome, Early Patriot, Memorial Endowed Scholarship, in memory of her ancestor, to give deserving students the chance to prosper at Fordham as she did. The scholarship honors her great-great-great grandfather, the Revolutionary War veteran and former lieutenant governor of New York for whom Manhattan’s Broome Street is named.
It is, she said, a fitting tribute to her celebrated ancestor and the perfect way to express her gratitude to the Jesuit University of New York.
“Fordham gave me the foundation for a successful career,” Semans said. “It broadened my perspective and thinking, and it strengthened my desire to help others.”
