Role and Mission
The goals of the Office of Legal Counsel are: to provide responsive answers to requests for legal assistance; to describe, prevent, and minimize legal risks; to render courteous, expeditious, detail-oriented service and problem-solving skills for the benefit of the University community.
General Counsel
The General Counsel reports directly to the University President and serves as the University's principal agent on all legal matters.
The General Counsel provides legal counsel to the President and the other University executive officers, deans, and client constituents; advises on the legal ramifications of University policies and decision-making; monitors compliance with Federal, New York State, and local laws and regulations; provides advice on personnel matters; reviews and negotiates contracts upon request.
It is the responsibility of the General Counsel to retain outside counsel and law firms, coordinate and supervise their work, manage litigation, and make certain that legal services are provided in a timely fashion and at reasonable cost.
Director of Equity and Equal Opportunity
The Director of Equity and Equal Opportunity investigates discrimination complaints from employees and students based on sex, race, gender, religion, national origin, and disability, and is designated as the Sexual Harassment Officer, the Title IX Coordinator and the Disabilities Compliance Officer for Fordham University. The Director works with legal counsel on immigration visas, and monitors the legal implications of institutional policies, procedures, and diversity objectives.

Thomas E. DeJulio, Esq. began his employment at Fordham University in 1972 and has served as Assistant Director of Research Services, University Budget Director, and Assistant Executive Vice President. In 1988, he was appointed as Fordham's first General Counsel and reports to the President as the principal agent for the University on all legal matters. Mr. DeJulio received his Bachelors degree summa cum laude in cursu honorum from Fordham College, and his J.D. in 1977 from Fordham Law School, Evening Division. He was admitted to the bar in January 1978 and has served on several committees of the New York State Bar Association and the Association of Jesuit Colleges and University (AJCU). Mr. DeJulio is also an active member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) and has been a community service leader in Kiwanis International, for which he served as New York District Governor in 1996-97.

Dr. Georgina Calia Arendacs has been a member of the Fordham University community since 1972 and has been working in the legal department for twenty years. She received her Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Sociology from Fordham Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. As a trained paralegal, she renders Litigation assistance and support.
Dr. Arendacs has specialized knowledge and experience in Title IX issues, having served on numerous institutional committees on athletics and gender equity. In addition, she frequently conducts workshops on diversity and successful recruitment strategies. Dr. Arendacs is well known in campus circles for her social activism and engagement in volunteer service programs through her leadership in the Fordham University Association and the Kiwanis Club of Fordham.
