NEW YORK - The "Velvet Voice" of the Los Angeles Dodgers Vin Scully will offer the commencement address to approximately 3,700 graduates plus their families, and receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters at Fordham's 155th Commencement, 1 p.m., Saturday, May 20, Rose Hill Campus. Scully, Fordham College class of 1949, is celebrating his 51st season as the "voice of the Dodgers."
Brother Rick Curry, S.J., founder and artistic director of the National Theatre Workshop for the Handicapped (NTWH), has been an international champion for the employment of persons with disabilities. Brother Curry is the author of the book The Secrets of Jesuit Breadmaking, (Harper Collins, 1995). In 1990, Curry was honored with the Distinguished Service Award of the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities.
Other honorary degree recipients include Rose Marie Bravo, CEO of Burberry and Fordham alumna, class of 1971; General John M. Keane, Vice Chief of Staff of the Army and Fordham alumnus, class of 1966; and Mary Ann Quaranta, D.S.W., 25-year dean of Fordham's Graduate School of Social Service.
