Law Dean Honored By Irish Historical Society

John D. Feerick, dean of the Fordham University School of Law, was honored as the 1999 Gold Medalist of the American Irish Historical Society. Feerick is a nationally-recognized mediator and one of the authors of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, which set new rules for presidential succession after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Feerick "not only devotes his own time and energy to all kinds of public causes, he champions the same spirit of service among Fordham’s student lawyers who are all expected to perform some kind of community work," said Kevin M. Cahill, the Historical Society’s president-general. "He’s even leading a conflict-resolution training program in Northern Ireland." Previous Gold Medalists include former President Ronald Reagan, Gov. Hugh Carey, AFl-CIO President John J. Sweeney and John Cardinal O’Connor.
