University Introduces New Academic Payment Options

By Patrick Verel

The Office of Enrollment Services is changing how Fordham students can pay their academic bills.

The new developments will enable the University to maintain regulatory compliance, improve service, maximize benefits and support its commitment to green initiatives, according to Fordham administrators.

The first change will affect how students can make payments. Effective March 1, matriculated undergraduate and graduate students will not be allowed to pay for tuition, room and board, or pay the technology fee or the general fee, with a credit card. Exceptions include:

• Fordham College of Liberal Studies students;
• Gabelli School of Business evening students;
• all summer undergraduate, graduate arts and sciences, and graduate religion students;
• Institute of American Language and Culture course fees;
• and miscellaneous incidental fees, including conference/workshop fees, application fees and late fees.

Only Visa, MasterCard and American Express will accepted in these cases.

All other payments for tuition, fees, room and board, and other charges will be accepted via cash, check, wire transfer, debit card, or Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions that directly debit a person’s bank account. Payment plans are available for people with significant balances.

The second change, which will occur at the end of the summer term, will make account statements available via electronic billing as well as traditional paper billing. The features of electronic billing include:

• online payments;
• delegation of payment authority to a third party, such as parents, grandparents or other relatives;
• and immediate adjustments to the account.

More information on the new credit card policy and electronic billing will be forthcoming as March 1 nears.
