professor and area chair of accounting and taxation, published “How Fair Values and Accounting Structures Allow Triple-Counting Income” in the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance.

Silvia C. Finnemann, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of biology, published two chapters, “Analysis of Photoreceptor Outer Segment Phagocytosis by RPE Cells in Culture” and “Analysis of Photoreceptor Rod Outer Segment Phagocytosis by RPE Cells in Situ” in Retinal Degeneration: Methods and Protocols (Humana Press, 2013).

Iftekhar Hasan, Ph.D., BUS,
professor of finance and Corrigan Chair in International Business and Finance, published “The Impact of CFO Gender on Bank Loan Contracting” in the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance.

Mary Heyser, RSHM, ADM,
Marymount alumnae chaplain, was present for the NASDAQ Stock Market opening bell on Jan. 30 as part of an event that launched a public service announcement on human trafficking.

Frank D. Hsu, Ph.D., A&S,
Clavius Distinguished Professor of Science and professor of computer and information science, edited ChiP-Seq DNA Sequencing (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press, 2013). He also edited Genome Assembly Using Generalized de Bruijn Digraphs (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press, 2013).

Paul Kantor, Ph.D., A&S,
professor emeritus of political science, presented a paper, “Global City Governance and Multi-Centered Development: A North American Perspective,” at The University of Amsterdam’s International Conference on the Urban Periphery on Jan. 24 and 25 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Julie C. Kim, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of English, published “Caribs in the Atlantic World: Negotiating Empires on St. Vincent in the Age of Revolutions” in Early American Studies.

Joyce Nilsson Orsini, Ph.D., BUS,
associate professor of management systems, edited The Essential Deming: Leadership Principles from the Father of Quality, (McGraw-Hill, 2012). 

Aristotle Papanikolaou, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of theology and co-founding director of the Orthodox Christian Studies Center, published a monograph, Being with God: Trinity, Apophaticism and Divine-Human Communion, which was translated into Serbian and published as Biti sa Bogom:  Trojica, Apofaticko Bogoslovlje i Bogocovecanska Zajednica (Trebinje: Diocese of Hercegovina and Litoral, 2012).

Robert J. Parmach, Ph.D., A&S,
Freshman dean of Fordham College at Rose Hill, faculty director of Manresa Scholars program, and instructor of philosophy and theology, recently published “Deeply Conservative: The Philosophy and Work of Dr. Kieran Scott,” in Great Christian Educators of the 20th Century, and was awarded a grant by Lilly Endowment Inc. & Talbot School of Theology, CA.

Giorgio Pini, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of philosophy, was elected a Visiting Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, for the academic year 2013–14.

Patrick J. Ryan, S.J., A&S,
The Laurence J. McGinley Professor of Religion and Society, delivered a lecture, “Arthur Jeffery: A Missionary Islamicist at Columbia,” on Jan. 31 at the Islam in the Columbia Curriculum [1886-2012] Conference at Columbia University.

Michael V. Tueth, S.J., A&S,
professor of communication and media studies, published “The Story of a Soul” in America Magazine.

Laura Wernick, Ph.D., GSS,
assistant professor of social work, published “Leveraging Privilege: Organizing Young People with Wealth to Support Social Justice,” in Social Service Review. She also published “Factors Predicting Student Intervention when Witnessing Anti-LGBTQ Harassment: Influence of Peers, Teachers and Climate,” in Children and Youth Services Review.
