Banner Year for Economics Professor

Banner Year for Economics Professor

Dominick Salvatore, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor of Economics and director of the doctoral program in economics, had a banner year, publishing hundreds of pages and traveling thousands of miles to present his work at conferences throughout the world.

During the 2002-2003 academic year, Salvatore introduced new editions of three leading texts in the field of economics— Microeconomics: Theory and Applications, 4th ed. (Oxford University Press); International Economics, 8th ed. (Wiley); and Managerial Economics in a Global Economy, 5th ed. (Thompson/South-Western). He co-edited The Dollarization Debate (Oxford University Press, 2003) and co-authored the second edition of Statistics and Econometrics (McGraw-Hill), bringing to 38 the total number of books that bear his name.

Salvatore also published three articles in scholarly journals and six papers in edited volumes. During the year, he wrote 16 articles for Il Sole (the Italian equivalent of the Wall Street Journal) and appeared on several international television programs. He was part of International Monetary Fund and World Bank delegations to Argentina and Brazil during the economic crises in those countries. And, with the participation of some of the world’s leading economists, he somehow found time to edit a special issue of the Journal of Policy Modeling on “The Dollar vs. the Euro: Will There Be a Struggle for Dominance?”

Despite his many research endeavors, Salvatore’s dedication to his students has not waned. He missed only one class, which he made up at later date.
