Nick Restaino Named Head Baseball Coach

Nick Restaino has been named head baseball coach after guiding the Rams to their second consecutive appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship during his first season as interim coach.

“Nick Restaino has done an outstanding job with the Fordham baseball program over the past eight years and we believe that the program is in good hands,” said Frank McLaughlin, Fordham's director of intercollegiate athletics. “With our rich baseball tradition and the new facility, we believe that the program is on the right track.”

Restaino, who served as the associate head coach for seven years prior to taking over as interim head coach last spring, was named the 2005 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year after leading the Rams to a 34-21 overall record; 17-7 in the Atlantic 10. The 34 wins are the most for a Fordham team since 1997, and the 17 conference wins set a school record. Last year, the Rams finished second in the East Division and were ranked third at the Atlantic 10 Championship, where they lost to Richmond and Duquesne in the first round.

Restaino, a 1992 graduate of Fordham's College of Business Administration, is the eighth head baseball coach at Fordham since 1909.

Dunston, the 2005 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, averaged 12.2 points per game (ppg), 7.8 rebounds per game (rpg) and had 10 blocks on the trip.

Last season, Dunston led the Rams with a 14.9 ppg, seventh best in the Atlantic 10; and 8.6 rpg, second best in the league. His 62 blocks were also a team high and the second best total in the Atlantic 10.
