While Fordham athletes are known for their prowess on the playing fields, the Rams aren’t slouching in the classroom, either. The intellectual pursuits of two students, in particular, are being honored by the Atlantic 10 conference.

Women’s soccer player Kim Boulos, FCRH ’09, and cross country runner Clifton Hilario, CBA ’09, were honored this fall for their academic and athletic success by being named Academic All-Atlantic 10 by the conference’s sports information directors.

To be nominated for Academic All-Conference honors, a player must be a starter or important reserve and have a 3.0 grade point average or better (on a 4.0 scale) for his or her entire academic career.

Boulos, a First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection this fall, had an outstanding senior campaign, leading the Rams in goals (10), points (23) and game-winning goals (5). A two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, seven of her 10 goals came in conference play, while overall she became the seventh Ram to have double-digit goals in a season.

Academically, Boulos, who earned Second Team All-League honors in 2007, is an international political economy major with a 3.58 GPA.

Hilario, an accounting major who is competing in his first year with the cross country team, was Fordham’s second finisher at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championship, placing 44th overall with a time of 25:31.6. That was the Rams’ second fastest 8K cross country time this fall. He also placed eighth at the Fairfield and Leeber invitationals and 10th at the Metropolitan Championships.

Hilario was named Academic All-Atlantic 10 for indoor and outdoor track in 2007-08. He and Jonathan Scott (2000-01) are the only two Fordham athletes to earn Atlantic 10 All-Academic honors for all three seasons.

For the past two years, Hilario earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors as a member of the winning 4x800 relay team at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships.
