Dominican President Sees Fordham as
Key Partner in Growth of Democracy

More than 500 members of the Fordham community—many of them students of Dominican ancestry—greeted Leonel Fernández, president of the Dominican Republic, with wild applause on Sept. 24 at Fordham’s Rose Hill campus and welcomed him back to his old New York City turf.

Fernández, who spent 14 of his formative years in the city’s Dominican enclave of Washington Heights, reciprocated by inviting Fordham’s students to join him on his mission to make his small nation a model of democracy in the Latin American world.

Executive MBA Program Top Ranked by Journal

Fordham’s Executive MBA (EMBA) program has been ranked 25th internationally in a report released in the Sept. 30 issue of The Wall Street Journal.

“This is exciting news,” said Joseph M. McShane, S.J., president of Fordham. “Today we celebrate the excellence of our executive MBA program. It helps to build Fordham’s reputation and to build our brand.”

1841 Society Honors Members at Luncheon

The question was, “Which United States president spent the most time living in New York City?”

The answer is Chester A. Arthur.

The query came in a presentation on Tuesday, Sept. 23, by John F. Roche, Ph.D., professor emeritus of history at Fordham. His lecture on the 15 presidents who have called the city home was a highlight of a luncheon given for members of the 1841 Society, which recognizes people who establish a life income gift at Fordham or include the University in their estate plans.

Religious, Government Leaders Caucus for Faith-Based Schools

Educators and religious leaders from around the region resolved to mobilize in support of faith-based schools that have proven they can help at-risk students.

The depletion of faith-based schools in the New York region is a crisis that threatens to rob inner-city children of an important educational alternative, according to members of the New York City Roundtable on Inner-City Children and Faith-Based Schools, which met in Manhattan on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
