Fordham Toasts Future at Ceremonial Groundbreaking
Robert Moses Plaza was the site of a spring awakening on May 2, as more than 600 guests celebrated the official groundbreaking of the University’s new Law School and undergraduate residence hall.
The outdoor event attracted judges, city officials, lawyers, alumni, community members and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to pay tribute to the $250 million project that promises to reshape Fordham’s Lincoln Center campus, the surrounding community and even the city.

In Social Work, Field Placement Drives the Show
As increased enrollment numbers came in to the Graduate School of Social Service (GSS) last summer, Jan Miner, M.S.W., found her appeals growing increasingly earnest.
Miner, GSS’ assistant dean and director of field instruction, is responsible for finding every GSS student a field placement for 14 to 21 hours a week in the metropolitan area. With enrollment surging from 950 to 1,100 last year, Miner scrambled to increase existing opportunities and to enlist new agencies.

IPED Grad Honored for
Relief Work in Afghanistan
Matthew McGarry (GSAS ’04) was honored on April 13 with the 2011 Swanstrom-Baerwald Award at a ceremony on the Rose Hill campus.
A graduate of the International Political and Economic Development (IPED) program, McGarry received the award from Theodore Cardinal McCarrick (FCRH ’54), who sits on the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Board of Directors.
