Ram Van Begins Offering Service to Marymount

A Fordham Ram Van filled with Marymount student leaders and ambassadors left the Tarrytown campus on Jan. 13, signaling the start of regular inter-campus transportation service between the Marymount and Rose Hill campuses.

The Marymount service, which completes the transportation link among all three Fordham campuses, comes after 18 months of preparation and development. Rose Hill students greeted the Marymount contingent upon their arrival and led them on a campus tour.

“As with any new initiative, implementing the van service to and from Marymount required extensive planning, including assessing the need and the demand, and also identifying the resources available to make it happen,” said Jeffrey L. Gray, vice president of student affairs, who oversees the service. During that time, the Office of Student Affairs provided targeted inter-campus transportation to and from Marymount for special events.

Service between Marymount and Rose Hill now runs seven days a week while undergraduate classes are in session. According to Gray, the schedule was specifically designed to enable Marymount students to participate in the clubs, activities and social events of the Lincoln Center and Rose Hill campuses. Likewise, Rose Hill and Lincoln Center students will also find it easier to attend events on the Marymount campus.

In the first week of operation, 32 people used the vans to travel from Rose Hill to Marymount and 56 traveled from Marymount to Rose Hill, according to Biagio Geremiah, director of Intercampus Transportation.

The Ram Van service is already making a difference at Marymount, according to Michele Burris, interim assistant to the vice president of student affairs.

“Students are using it and talking about using it to go to events and even to travel to and from home,” she said. “They see it as a safe, affordable mode of transportation to use to augment the Marymount College experience.”

The cost of a one-way trip is $2.50. Discount coupon books are available.
