One wouldn’t think to group Bronx history with the music of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, but at Fordham University Press, the varied richness of New York subjects cried out for a larger audience.

Though Fordham has had a longstanding history of publishing books on the region, the 2010 introduction of Empire State Editions officially brought together New York City and state subject matter under one umbrella.

Dolan to Give Homily

John Brennan, FCRH '77

John Brennan, FCRH ’77, the Obama administration’s deputy national security adviser for counterterrorism and homeland security, will deliver Fordham’s 167th commencement speech on May 19.

Newly-elevated Timothy Cardinal Dolan, archbishop of New York, will be the principal celebrant and homilist at the Fordham College at Rose Hill Class of 2012’s Baccalaureate Mass, to be held May 18 in the Rose Hill Gymnasium, the Office of the President announced.

Did You Know?

Magenta, not maroon, was originally Fordham’s official color. Harvard also laid claim to magenta, however, and the two schools played a series of baseball games to decide which could keep it. (Fordham won, but Harvard reneged on the deal, according to unconfirmed lore.) Later, in 1874, Fordham adopted maroon as its official color.
