Cloud Computing Conference

Dr. Frank J. Sirianni,
Collaboration in the cloud:Challenges and solutions

Dr. Frank J. Sirianni, VP and CIO, was a featured speaker
and panelist at the IT RoadMap Conference and Expo at the
Javits Center in New York City on February 7, 2012. Dr. Sirianni’s presentation, Collaboration in the Cloud: Challenges and Solutions, was well received by the 100 person audience. The presentation's Question and Answer period spilled over to the panel discussion that Dr. Sirianni subsequently participated in with over 400 people in the audience.

During his Collaboration in the Cloud presentation, Dr. Sirianni defined Cloud Computing as a model where “users don’t own, house or control the   computing asset; service is delivered on a pay-per-use (utility) or subscription model; resources and services are often virtual and shared by multiple parties and delivered via the internet.”

He discussed the current state of cloud computing at Fordham University – with 41 apps already in the cloud, and student email and collaboration in the cloud with the use of Gmail and Google Apps – and the benefits of cloud computing including speed, lower costs, improved performance, reduced dependency on internal IT resources, scalability and ubiquitous access from all devices.  Dr. Sirianni reviewed with the audience the concerns, technology drivers and roadmap for cloud collaboration at Fordham.

From the IT RoadMap Conference Expo website:

"Like at many other leading educational institutions, social media and mobility have changed the way faculty, staff, and students interact for academic, administrative and social needs. Supporting this sea change has been a challenge for most IT departments. Dr. Frank Sirianni, CIO, shared how Fordham University is navigating the Cloud, moving the organization in the direction of more effective connections and communication. Learn how the Cloud and solutions to the collaboration conundrum are being leveraged while exploring methods to more effectively mine the data flooding in from social media for some useful analytics."
