| In order to access the Fordham Wireless Network you will need a notebook computer and or handheld PC with an IEEE 802.11b/g Wi-Fi compliant network interface card (NIC). Most laptop computers are equipped with at least one PCMCIA slot to accommodate a wireless card easily. |
| Although any Wi-Fi (802.11b) compliant NIC card should work on the University Wireless Network, we recommend the following equipment. |
- Enterasys – CSIBD-AA-128
- Linksys – WPC11
- Apple – M7600LL/E

Installing a Wireless Card
Please check your computer’s control panel to determine if there is a wireless card already installed. Most new notebook computers already have wireless built directly in the machine. If your computer does not have built in wireless, please follow the installation instructions which accompanied the wireless card you purchased.

|
Macintosh OS 8.5/9/X
Apple PowerBook G3/400 – G4 users should use an Apple Airport Card. Although Enterasys and other vendors offer cards which are compatible, the installation process is much simpler. The performance of the Apple card is the same as most of the other cards. Please follow the installation instructions for your Wireless Airport card.

Enterasys
Follow the Enterasys installation instructions on loading the wireless card and software. After installation reboot your computer. Go to the TCP/IP section in control panel and select RoamAbout. If it is not present, select Ethernet. Close the window and save the configuration. Your card should now be active and will pick up the wireless network signal. |
|
Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
Enterasys and Linksys make PC wireless cards which will work in most Windows portable computers. Windows computers should register a new component once the card is plugged in. Please follow the installation instructions for your card.
|
|
| Network Configuration |
| The Default network configuration for your wireless card should be DHCP. This will allow your computer to automatically receive an IP address. The name of the wireless network is FORDHAMRH when on the Rose Hill campus, FORDHAMLC when on the Lincoln Center campus and FORDHAMMM when at the Marymount Campus. |
- Macintosh: This should appear in the Airport administration automatically.
|
- Windows: Once your card is installed this value will appear in one of the following fields Name, SSID or ESSID. This name is sent out from the wireless access points to your wireless card.
