About Us

FUEMS Abulance In 1977, Fordham University junior Bruce Nedelka envisioned an emergency response group that would provide medical care to the Fordham community.  As a result of this vision, the Student Emergency Response Group was formed.  The group began, as Bruce has pointed out, as a group of students using fanny packs and band-aids.  While on duty, SERG members slept in a small office with a telephone, waiting for it to ring so that they could provide scene stabilization for on campus emergencies
until outside agencies arrived and transported patients safely to the hospital. In 1988, SERG was reorganized into what is today known as Fordham University Emergency Medical Service (FUEMS).  This reorganizaton included the certification of FUEMS as a NYS certified Basic Life Support provider and the acquisition of the organization's first ambulance.   A subruban fly car was acquired in the early 90's as was a second ambulance in 1993 which was most recently replace in April of 2008.   The suburban was retired years later and in 2001 the organiztion replaced its oldest ambulance with a McCoy Miller (still in service).

Additionally, FUEMS is a 100% student-run, volunteer organization that provides the highest level of care to the students, faculty, staff, and friends of Fordham.  It operates throughout the academic year 24 hours a day, seven days a week as the primary Emergency Medical Service provider.  Each four person crew is led by a NYS certified Emergency Medical Technician who has recieved over 200 hours of classroom and pratical training in additon to hospital and ambulance rotations.
We are an organization that holds dear the precept of Jesuit education – being “Men and Women for Others.”
