A Note from the Director:
To the Fordham Community:
Fordham University Emergency Medical Service (FUEMS) is a unique organization comprised of young men and women who follow in the Jesuit tradition of serving ones fellow man. FUEMS has been a part of this campus for 27 years and had grown from a small student group who responded to on campus emergencies on foot, to an organization that is comprised of over 50 members and two ambulances who respond to all calls on campus and off campus housing, provide stand-by services for on campus sporting events, including but not limited to Men’s rugby and Fordham Prep football. Our organization has worked closely with other agencies such as the Fire Department of New York, Our Lady of Mercy EMS and Lifeline Ambulance Services and has created a long standing tradition of mutual support with these agencies and the surrounding Fordham community.
Our structure has changed over the years but our desire to provide efficient patient care has only increased. This year marks a very important point in FUEMS history. Unfortunately, this past year’s officer staff was made up of mostly graduating seniors and with them graduating we lose their knowledge and assistance. Fortunately, the men and women who have taken the place of these seniors are enthusiastic and are ready to put their own mark on FUEMS history. This upcoming year’s officer staff is willing to put the work and time back into the organization to make ready for the task at hand of providing faster, more efficient patient care to Fordham and the Bronx community.
We are in the midst of looking at new training opportunities, updating our protocols, and most of all staying true to our original mission. With the enthusiasm of this new staff and the help from past alumni and outside agencies, FUEMS is in a good position to carry on the tradition of those of the past and hopefully exceed theirs and our hopes.
In the upcoming school year, FUEMS is hoping to purchase a new Type II ambulance to replace our old 1993 McCoy-Miller, who due to mechanical issues has left us unsure about it viability in the upcoming year. With the purchase of a new ambulance we hope not only to increase availability on campus but continue our long standing tradition of Mutual aid and activate in to the 911 MARS system while still providing the best care for the Fordham community. While eliminating past debt, restructuring our training system and utilizing IT technologies we hope to bring Fordham University EMS into the 21st century and become an example for not only other collegiate Organizations but to the EMS world as a whole. As always we could not have sustained over 25 years without the support of alumni and the administration. If you are interested about information on donating to our organization please feel free to contact us. Thank You.
Sincerely,
Michael Hill, EMT-B
