Commencement
Saturday, May 17th, 2008
Commencement brings 12,000 people to our Rose Hill Campus for this special day. While the campus is prepared and thrilled to welcome our graduates and their families, we want this experience to be positive for all. We encourage you to use public transportation if at all possible. Shuttle service to our Rose Hill Campus will be available from Lincoln Center, Fordham Westchester in West Harrison and the Fordham Plaza parking garage located at 189th Street and Washington Ave., one block from campus. Fortunately, there are many options to consider in travelling to Rose Hill Campus for Commencement.
Public Transportation
The Metropolitan Transportation Agency has several options. You can take the Metro North, subway or bus. By taking the Harlem Line of the Metro North to the Fordham Road station, you will be steps from the Walsh Family Library entrance. You can take the D or 4 Train Subway to the Fordham Road stop and then take the Bx12 bus six blocks. The bus will drop you off right next to campus. Information can be found at http://www.mta.info/.
Ram Van Service
Please note that Ram Van service will not use the normal pick up/ drop off location at the Rose Hill campus in front of McGinley Center. Lincoln Center and Fordham Westchester Campus shuttles will depart from O'Hare Drive, which is between O'Hare Hall and the new parking garage.
Westchester Service
Vans will leave continuously from the Fordahm Westchester Campus from 7:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Return van service back to the Fordham Westchester Campus will leave continuously from 12:30 PM until 4:00 PM. After 4:00pm, vans will depart from the Rose Hill Campus every hour on the hour until 6:00 PM as needed.
Fordham Plaza Parking
Free parking is available at the Fordham Plaza Parking Garage (189th Street and Washington Avenue). There will be limited shuttle service to the Rose Hill Campus as it is only one short block away from the Walsh Family Library entrance. The drop-off/ pick-up location for this service will be on the corner of 191st St and Bathgate Ave, right outside Rose Hill's gates.
Special Needs
Physically challenged attendees at Commencement should be dropped at our main entrance on Southern Boulevard or at our Bathgate entrance on 191st and Bathgate Ave. We will drive handicapped people to the Commencement ceremony on golf carts. Private vehicles that drop off handicapped/physically challenged must then proceed to one of the parking lots as directed by Security officials. If a handicapped person is driving alone, please contact Tina Demas at 718-817-4075.
After the Ceremonies
At the end of the Diploma Ceremonies, resident students and their families prepare to move out of their dorms. This process cannot start on campus until 4:00 PM. Students can move from Walsh Hall anytime onto East 191st Street, but cannot have any vehicles on campus until 4:00 PM. There is no move out ability on campus before Commencement by vehicle. Unfortunately, Ram Vans will be unavailable to move students out of their dorm. The campus roadways will only be able to accomodate essential vehicles, i.e. golf carts, ambulances, Security, or facility cars due to the large quantity of pedestrians that day.
