The Writing Center
Providing Instruction, Not Correction
Providing more than a proofreading service, our tutors will work with you on a variety of logical, rhetorical, and grammatical concerns in your writing. We can assist you with any type of writing from your curriculum, from conception, to composition, to completion. Our aim is not only to help you perfect an individual essay; we want to help you develop the tools you need to become a better writer. Our service is free and, if you come with the right expectations and the willingness to participate actively in the session, extremely effective.
Rose Hill
HOURS
We are open Monday through Thursday 9:00-8:00; Fridays we close at 3:00.
LOCATION
The Writing Center is located on the East side of Dealy Hall’s fifth floor—in the Economics Department. Our schedule board is posted in the hallway leading from the elevators to the Economics Department door. We reside in a large cubicle just inside that door.
RESERVING A SESSION
You can reserve a session by calling the Writing Center or by entering your name on the schedule board.
To reserve a session by using the schedule board:
Write your full name in the time block(s) that you want to reserve. Each block represents a half-hour. To reserve a full hour, write your name in two blocks (as long as it does not span the names of two tutors). You might want to copy down the time for your later reference.
To reserve a session by telephone:
Call the Writing Center (x4032) during its business hours and give us your full name and the time you would like to reserve. Be prepared with alternate times in case the session is not available.
You may reserve up to an hour on any given day and as much as an hour and a half per week. Please do not fill spaces that span two tutors’ names.
Note: If you reserve a session and then find you will not be able to keep your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. Either neatly cross your name off the schedule board or call to cancel. Students who repeatedly miss their sessions without providing notice will lose their reservation privileges.
Please be on time. If you are not here at your appointed time, your session may be given to someone else or simply cancelled.
Walk-ins:
Walk-ins are welcome whenever space is available. If no tutor is free to help you, why not take a look at the schedule board? You might find an available slot that suits you.
PLEASE BRING YOUR ASSIGNMENT WITH YOU. AND EXPECT TO DO WORK.
