Legal and Ethical Studies

The Legal and Ethical Studies department offers courses discussing business law and ethical concepts important for business students today. The business law courses are designed to give a strong foundation in the areas of contract law, business organizations, such as agency, partnerships, limited liability companies and corporations. In addition, classes in a variety of other topics in  law are offered: for example, commercial transactions (required for accounting students), international business law (an attractive elective for G.L.O.B.E. students), employment law (required for students in the human resource management concentration), and sports and the law. The required business ethics class addresses issues involving values and social norms in the business community and as an electice, students can take international business ethics.

The concepts discussed in all classes in Legal and Ethical Studies expose students to salient issues that affect the business environment today. Making our students think about legal and ethical issues - many of which are cutting-edge - will give them a competitive "leg-up" in the business world today.

Students wishing to pursue this area in more depth may consider minoring in business law and ethics.
